Modes of Instruction

  • Classroom format includes lectures, class discussions, group problem solving and case studies.
  • Any matters covered in the assigned chapters and by the instructor constitutes part of the subject content and is eligible or inclusion on the final examination.
  • It is ESSENTIAL that students read assigned material before class and make careful notes on the reading material as well as in-class lectures and discussion.
  • It is extremely important for students to be prepared for class and to be actively involved in discussions as this greatly aids the learning process

  • HP10B II Hewlett-Packard calculator.

Required Supplies

Three-ring binder, paper, pens, highlighter, above noted text and calculator.   

Modes of Evaluation

This subject meets the educational requirements for Mortgage Agent licensing by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and qualifies for a College credit.  The requirements to obtain each are listed below.

For Licensing Purposes (both online and in-class)
Grading is based on the following marking shceme:

Final Exam                                              100%
For Licensing purposes, eligibility for licenses is based solely on the examination

For Credit Purposes (in-class)
Grading is based on the following marking scheme:

  • You must obtain at least 60% on your term to be eligible to write the Final Exam.  Students who do not meet this requirement will be contacted by the Professor.
  • You MUST obtain at least 60% on the Final Exam to pass the course.

Please Note For All Students:
To achieve success in the final exam, students must complete all in-class or on-line requirements and achieve a minimum 60%.

Term Work and Final Exam

  • Students must pass the final exam to pass the subject.
  • Keyed material should be correctly formatted and grammatically correct as a result of accurate proof-reading, proper spelling and punctuation.  In recognition of the significance of proper language skills in the work force, up to 5 marks may be deducted for language errors on all tests, assignments and exams.
  • Documents should be formatted to the instructor’s standards.
  • Students must retain a duplicate of all assignments.
  • Assignments and Case Study must be handed in on time.

Absenteeism and Tests

Students should be aware that absenteeism guarantees their inability to achieve satisfactory grades.
  • If you are absent for the examination due to an emergency (death in the family, motor vehicle accident – not a business trip) official documentation must be provided to the Professor, Program Coordinator’s office, prior to the examination and no later than the following day.
  • Tests or examinations missed without official documentation and approval, prior to the test or examination and no later than the following day, results in a grade of zero.
