goal, business leadership starts right here at the Seneca
College School of Business Management (SBM).
If you are accepted into the program you will
start with the basics - you will learn how to build trust, to work
ethically.
In your first year, you will
learn how to think critically, communicate effectively and understand
the basic necessities of running a business. The program will also
challenge you to find ways to see the bigger picture - to go beyond
the everyday.
By the end of the first two semesters, you will understand
what it means to add value with the transferable skills the current
business environment demands. You will see how and where you can make
your mark.
Depending on your program goals you can complete your General
Business Studies (GBS) diploma in two years and get on your way.
You
can choose to complete a three year business diploma. Areas include:
Many business credits are recognized toward fulfilment
of many degree and professional association requirements. With a business
diploma you can:
- take further education at the post graduate diploma level or complete
an applied degree at Seneca or another Community College;
- complete a degree at University. Seneca College has articulation agreements
with many universities in Canada and around the world;
- use some of your credits to contribute to professional qualifications.
Organizations such as PMAC (Operations Management), CIM (Canadian Institute
of Management) and CPSA (Canadian Professional Sales Association) all
recognize applicable business program credits at the level of B or better.
CERTIFIED IN MANAGEMENT (CIM)
To earn
this professional designation, students are required to complete an eight
subject-study program in effective management which includes seven compulsory
subject areas and one optional subject area.
Seneca College, in cooperation with the Canadian
Institute of Management,
offers the opportunity to earn credits toward this professional designation
by successfully completing these subjects in any one of the the 6 semester
(3 year) business diploma programs.
Established
in 1942, the Canadian Institute of Management is a non-profit organization
dedicated to the enhancement of managerial skills and professional development.
Currently, there are 22 C.I.M. branches coast-to-coast with the National
Office in Ontario. Since its inception, the Institute has helped over
50,000 managers to develop a broadly-based education in management skills.
GREEN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Green Business Management is a post-diploma graduate certificate
intended specifically for individuals who wish to differentiate themselves
and gain an employment advantage in an increasingly competitive business
environment. The program will develop the skills to define what it means
for a company to be “green”.

UNIVERSITY TRANSFER
After you complete your business diploma, you can move
into the business world to start your career with confidence and knowledge;
or you can take your education even further by going on to university.
Seneca has articulation agreements
with many
outstanding Canadian and international universities. These
agreements mean you can apply credits for courses taken at Seneca toward
your university degree.
BUSINESS FUNDEMENTALS CERTIFICATE
(BFD)
This program is intended for students who wish
to develop the skills and knowledge appropriate for an entry-level position
in business. Completion of the program will provide you with a solid business
foundation, while exposure to core business courses will allow you to understand
the many different areas of business and better choose an area of focus.
After successful completion of the BFD program, a student will be eligible
to enroll in a number of Seneca's diploma programs including General Business,
Accounting, Marketing, Insurance, International Business or Human Resources.
Students can go directly into the second year of a diploma program with
one or two additional courses to complete from year one. Graduates who
choose to enter the workforce may leave with their Certificate or continue
studying for a diploma on a part-time basis through Continuing Education.
